  • question_answer
A spring constant of a spring is k, when it is divided into\[n\]equal parts, then the spring constant of one piece will be:

    A)  \[\frac{(n+1)k}{n}\]

    B)  \[\frac{nk}{n+1}\]

    C)  \[k/n\]

    D)  \[nk\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Here: Spring constant\[=k\] When this spring is divided into\[n\]parts then Ac relation for the spring constant\[k\]is given by, \[\frac{1}{k}+\frac{1}{{{k}_{1}}}+\frac{1}{{{k}_{2}}}+....+\frac{1}{{{k}_{n}}}\] \[=\frac{1}{{{k}_{1}}}+\frac{1}{{{k}_{2}}}+....+n\,times\] \[=\frac{n}{{{k}_{1}}}\] Or \[{{k}_{1}}=nk\] where    \[{{k}_{1}}={{k}_{2}}={{k}_{3}}=....{{k}_{n}}\] (where\[{{k}_{1}}\]is the spring constant of one piece)
