MGIMS WARDHA MGIMS WARDHA Solved Paper-2012

  • question_answer
Focal length of a lens is + 10 cm and its refractive index is 1.4, it is dipped in a liquid of refractive index 1.6, then its focal length becomes

    A)  \[-16\text{ }cm\]

    B)  \[+32\text{ }cm\]

    C)  \[+16\text{ }cm\]

    D)  \[-32cm\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                    When lens is dipped in liquid, then its focal length \[={{f}_{e}}\] \[\frac{{{f}_{1}}}{{{f}_{n}}}=\left( \frac{_{a}{{n}_{g}}-1}{_{l}{{n}_{g}}-1} \right)\] \[=\frac{1.4-1}{\left( \frac{1.4}{1.6}-1 \right)}\] \[=\frac{0.4\times 1.6}{0.2}=3.2\] \[\frac{{{f}_{1}}}{10}=3.2\]          \[\Rightarrow \]               \[{{f}_{1}}=-32\,cm\]
