  • question_answer
A monoatomic gas is suddenly compressed to\[\frac{1}{8}\text{th}\]of its volume adiabatically. The ratio of first pressure of the gas to that of original pressure will be

    A) \[128\,\,times\]

    B) \[32\,\,times\]

    C) \[8\,\,times\]

    D) \[16\,\,times\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Initial volume\[{{V}_{1}}=V\] Final volume\[{{V}_{2}}=\frac{V}{8}\] For monoatomic gas\[\gamma =\frac{5}{3}\] The relation for adiabatic change                 \[{{P}_{1}}V_{1}^{\gamma }={{P}_{2}}V_{2}^{\gamma }\]                 \[\frac{{{P}_{2}}}{{{P}_{1}}}={{\left( \frac{{{V}_{1}}}{{{V}_{2}}} \right)}^{\gamma }}={{\left( \frac{V}{\frac{V}{8}} \right)}^{\gamma }}={{(8)}^{5/3}}=32\]
