  • question_answer
A radioactive substance after 48 days remains \[25%\]of initial then find disintegration constant:

    A) \[2.89\times {{10}^{-2}}{{T}^{-1}}\]

    B) \[3.89\times {{10}^{-3}}{{T}^{-1}}\]

    C) \[4.89\times {{10}^{-2}}{{T}^{-1}}\]

    D)  none of these

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Let the initial amount of radioactive substance \[({{N}_{0}})\] be 100, then amount left after 48 days \[({{N}_{t}})=25\](given) Now, we know that disintegration constant                 \[K=\frac{2.303}{t}\log \frac{{{N}_{0}}}{{{N}_{t}}}\] Substituting the values                 \[K=\frac{2.303}{48}\log \frac{100}{25}\] \[K=0.0479\times \log 4=0.0479\times 0.6020\]                 \[K=0.0289{{T}^{-1}}\]                     \[=2.89\times {{10}^{-2}}{{T}^{-1}}\]
