  • question_answer
The equation of motion of a progressive wave is y = 0.3 sin(314 t-1.57x) where and y are in metre and t is in second. The velocity of wave is

    A)  100 m/s

    B)         200 m/s

    C)  400 m/s

    D)         5 mm/s

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Given equation is \[y=0.3\,\sin (314t-1.57x)\]                         ...(1) Standard equation is \[y=A\,\,\sin \,(\omega t\,kx)\]                                                ...(2) Comparing (1) and (2), we get \[\omega \]=314 rad/s        \[k=1.57\,{{m}^{-1}}\] \[\therefore \]Velocity of wave,                              \[\upsilon =\frac{\omega }{k}=\frac{314}{1.57}\] \[=200\,m/s\]
