RAJASTHAN PMT Rajasthan - PMT Solved Paper-2004

  • question_answer
Strongest \[C-H\] bond is present in:

    A)  ethane

    B)                         ethane

    C)  ethyne

    D)         \[C{{H}_{3}}OH\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The bond strength increases with increase in s-character of hybridisation amongst  sp-(s-character  \[=50%\]) \[s{{p}^{2}}-\] (s-character \[=33%\])  and \[s{{p}^{3}}-\] (s-character \[=25%\]) hybridizations, the maximum     s-character     is     in sp-hybridisation and sp-hybridisation is found in ethyne. Hence, the strongest \[C-C\]and \[C-H\] bonds are present in ethyne.
