  • question_answer
In which of the following reactions, ethyl chloride is obtained in good yield?

    A)  \[Ethane+C{{l}_{2}}\xrightarrow{h\omega }\]

    B)  \[Ethane+C{{l}_{2}}(excess)\xrightarrow{h\omega }\]

    C)  \[Ethane+C{{l}_{2}}\xrightarrow{in\,dark}\]

    D)  \[Benzene+C{{l}_{2}}\xrightarrow{{}}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Ethane and limited quantity of chlorine reacts in presence of sunlight to form ethyl chloride. Whereas in presence of excess chlorine, hexa-chloro ethane (artificial camphor) is obtained. \[{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{6}}+C{{l}_{2}}\xrightarrow{hv}{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{5}}Cl+HCl\]
