  • question_answer
If temperature becomes triple, the root mean square velocity of gas molecules will be:

    A)  \[\upsilon /2\]

    B)  \[\upsilon \sqrt{3}\]

    C)  \[\sqrt{3}\upsilon \]

    D)         same \[[\upsilon \] is the root mean square velocity of gas molecules at temperature T]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

                \[{{\upsilon }_{rms}}=\sqrt{\left( \frac{3RT}{M} \right)}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[{{\upsilon }_{rms}}\propto \sqrt{T}\] \[\therefore \]  \[\frac{\upsilon {{}_{rms}}}{{{\upsilon }_{rms}}}=\sqrt{\left( \frac{T}{T} \right)}\] Here: \[{{\upsilon }_{rms}}=\upsilon ,T=3T\] \[\therefore \]  \[\upsilon {{}_{rms}}=\sqrt{\left( \frac{2T}{T} \right)}\upsilon \]          \[=\sqrt{3}\upsilon \]
