If 2g of helium is enclosed in a vessel at NTP, how much heat should be added to it to double the pressure?

    A)                          1638 J

    B)              1019 J

    C)              1568 J

    D)                                     836 J

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

                                    \[\Delta Q=\mu {{C}_{V}}\Delta T\] Here: \[\mu =\frac{2}{4}=\frac{1}{2}\]                                 \[{{C}_{v}}=M{{E}_{\upsilon }}=4\times 3=12\] At constant volume                                 \[\frac{{{P}_{2}}}{{{P}_{1}}}=\frac{{{T}_{2}}}{{{T}_{1}}}\] But         \[{{P}_{2}}=2{{P}_{i}}\](given) \[\therefore \]  \[{{T}_{2}}=2{{T}_{1}}=2\times 273K\] or            \[\Delta T={{T}_{2}}={{t}_{1}}=273K\] so,      \[\Delta Q=\frac{1}{2}\times 12\times 273=1638J\]
