  • question_answer
The  displacement  equation  for a progressive wave   is \[y=5\times {{10}^{-5}}\] sin (100 t-50 x), where quantities are in MKS system, velocity of wave will be:

    A)  1 m/s

    B)  2 m/s

    C)  0.5 m/s

    D)         15 m/s

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    \[y=5\times {{10}^{-5}}\,\sin \,(100t-50x)\] Comparing with the standard equation \[y=A\,\sin \,(\omega t-kx)\] \[k=50\Rightarrow \frac{2\pi }{\lambda }=50\,\Rightarrow \lambda =\frac{2\pi }{50}m\] \[\omega =100\Rightarrow n\frac{100}{2\pi }per\,\sec \] \[\therefore \]Velocity of wave \[\upsilon =n\lambda \] \[=\frac{100}{2\pi }\times \frac{2\pi }{50}=2\,m/s\]
