RAJASTHAN PMT Rajasthan - PMT Solved Paper-2007

  • question_answer
\[n\,\text{-}\]particles per second are being emitted by N atoms of a radioactive element. The half-life of element will be

    A)  \[\left( \frac{n}{N}s \right)\]

    B)  \[\left( \frac{N}{n} \right)s\]

    C)  \[\frac{0.693N}{n}s\]

    D)         \[\frac{0.693n}{N}s\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    The decay rate \[R\] of a radioactive element is the number of decays per second.                 \[n=R=\lambda N\] where\[\lambda =\]decay constant                 \[=\frac{0.693}{half-life}=\frac{0.693}{T}\] \[\therefore \]  \[n=\frac{0.693}{T}N\] or            \[T=\frac{0.693}{n}s\]
