    Solution :

    Average speed \[=\frac{2\times 10\times 8}{10+8}\] \[=\frac{2\times 80}{18}\] \[=\frac{80}{9}\,\,km/hr\] And      time \[4\frac{1}{2}\] hours \[=\frac{9}{2}\] hours Now, total distance covered by him \[=speed\times time\] \[=\frac{80}{9}\times \frac{9}{2}\] \[=40\,\,km\]
