    Some students planned a picnic. The budget for food was Rs.  500. But, 5 of them failed to go and thus the cost of food for each member increased by Rs.  5. How many students attended the picnic?

    Solution :

    Let number of student which planned a picnic = x but the number of students attended the picnic \[=(x-5)\] and The cost of food for each member =Rs.  y Then,    xy = 500                       ... (1) and\[\left( x-y \right)\,\,\left( y+5 \right)=500\]                    ? (2) On solving eq. (1) and (2)? x = 25 and y =Rs. 20 Hence, Number of student attended the picnic \[=25-5\] = 20
