The ratio of A's and B's ages is 5 : 7. If the sum of their present ages is 48 years, what is the difference in their ages?

    A) 6 years

    B) 7 years

    C) 8 years

    D) None of these

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Let the present age of A = 5x years and   the present age of B = 7x years Then,                \[5x+7x=48\] \[12x=48\]                                                 \[x=4\] Hence, the difference in their ages \[=7x-5x\]                              \[=2x=2\times 4\]                              \[=8\,\,years\]
