    Solution :

    Let the quantity sold at 8% profit is x kg. \[8%\,\,of\,\,x+18%\,\,of\,\,(1,000-x)=1,000\times \frac{14}{100}\] \[\frac{8x}{100}+\frac{(1,000-x)\times 18}{100}=140\] \[8x+18,000-18x=14,000\] \[18,000-14,000=10x\] \[x=\frac{4,000}{10}=400\,\,kg\]
