    If a man walks 20 km at the speed of 5 km/hr, he will be late by 40 minutes. If he walks at 8 km/hr, how early from the fixed time will he reach?

    Solution :

    Fixed time \[=\frac{20}{5}\]hour-40min \[=4\,\,hour-40\,\,min\] \[=3\,\,hour-20\,\,min\] When, he walks at 8 km/hr Then,     time to reach \[=\frac{20}{8}\]                                    = 2 hour 30 min. Hence, he will reach                  \[=3\,\,hour\,\,20\,\,min-2\,\,hour\,\,30\,\,min.\]                  = 50 min. before.
