    Answer:

    (b) 'They' greeted the narrator in a friendly way because they were hopeful that the narrator would avail the services they offered and pay them for the same.
    OR
    (b) Monuments will not be able to outlive this rhyme because they will be unable to withstand time's destruction and ravages.
