Dr. Kemp is a scientist. He is a former acquaintance of Griffin. He hopes to be admitted one day into The Royal Society. So he keeps studying science relentlessly. He listens to Griffin's story with a lot of interest. Unlike the locals, Dr. Kemp is a calm and composed person. He turns down Griffins request to join him in his evil pursuits. He believes that Griffin has gone insane and is homicidal. Being a man of honour and a law abiding citizen, he takes a big step and reports him to the police.

Lammeter sisters are very interesting. One of their interesting features is the fact that all their money has not been able to buy them much class or education. They are virtuous. Nancy is apparently beautiful. She move with a lot of graceful movements, whereas, Priscilla is not beautiful. She is very likeable for her good sense and strong character. She is like a breath of fresh air. But both of them have a lot of country in them and their country ways are funny.
