    Explain any five characteristics of plantation agriculture in the world.

    Answer:

    The characteristics of plantation agriculture are as follows:
    (i) Plantation crops are usually raised on large estates such as the tea and coffee estates which cover more than 100 acres each.
    (ii) In this type of farming usually single cropping is practised which is produced with a view to sell in the market and earn profit.
    (iii) Modern mechanized agricultural methods are employed to raise the highest yield with the lowest cost of production.
    (iv) It is a capital intensive method as it employs mechanized farming along with the application of chemicals, fertilizers, high yielding variety of seeds, irrigation, insecticides and pesticides.
    (v) Agricultural labouresrs are less in number as farming is highly mechanized.
