Describe briefly the drainage system of the Harappan cities.

    Answer:

Harappan cities had a well-planned drainage pattern. It followed a grid structure with straight streets crossing each other at right angles. It is assumed that the houses were later laid out taking the drainage pattern into consideration. Every house had a drain connected to the street drains. The main drains were made of brick and mortar and covered with loose mortar or limestone for easy cleaning. Long channels had sumps at intervals. The solid matter from waste water flowing out through house drains got collected in a sump, then allowing the waste water flow into the street drains.
