    Solution :

     Under certain conditions, alkanes react with \[HN{{O}_{3}}\], a hydrogen atom being replaced by a nitro group \[(N{{O}_{2}})\]. This process is known as nitration. Nitration of alkane may be carried out in the vapour phase between \[{{150}^{o}}\] to \[{{475}^{o}}C\].
