  • question_answer
How many ATP are produced when one molecule of \[\text{FAD}{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}\]is oxidised to FAD through electron transport system?

    A)  2

    B)  3

    C)  1

    D)  4

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

During the course of electron transfer, when electrons passes from one carrier molecule to another {via complex I to IV) in the ETC.   They get coupled to ATP synthase for the production ofATP from ADP and Pi (inorganic phosphate). The number of ATP molecule synthesised depends upon the nature of the electron donor. One molecule of \[FAD{{H}_{2}}\]on oxidation provides or produces 2 molecules of ATP because its redox potential is higher than NADH and thus, enters the ETS after by passing the first site of phosphorylation.
