Which of the following is not involved in muscular contraction?

    A)  Calcium ion

    B)  Troponin

    C)  Actin

    D)  Magnesium ion

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Muscle contraction is the shortening or tensinc of a part or organ {i.e., a muscle fibre). These muscle fibre generates tension during the action ofactin and myosin cross-bridge cycling. Actin and troponin are the globular proteins made up of two and three globular peptides respectively. Troponin are distributed at regular intervals on tropomyosin. Calcium ion also play a key regulatory role in muscle contraction, i.e., increase in the calcium ion levels lead to their binding to the troponin subunit. Thus, excepting the magnesium ion which is not involved directly in the process of muscle contraction (instead it is involved secondarily.) All other components given in the options are primarily involved.
