    The value of \[\left| \,\begin{matrix}    41 & 42 & 43  \\    44 & 45 & 46  \\    47 & 48 & 49  \\ \end{matrix}\, \right|=\] [Karnataka CET 2001]

    A) 2

    B) 4

    C) 0

    D) 1

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Given, \[\Delta =\left| \,\begin{matrix}    41 & 42 & 43  \\    44 & 45 & 46  \\    47 & 48 & 49  \\ \end{matrix}\, \right|.\] Applying \[{{C}_{2}}\to {{C}_{2}}-{{C}_{1}},\,{{C}_{3}}\to {{C}_{3}}-{{C}_{2}}\] we get\[\Delta =\left| \,\begin{matrix}    41 & 1 & 1  \\    44 & 1 & 1  \\    47 & 1 & 1  \\ \end{matrix}\, \right|\]. Since two columns (\[{{C}_{2}}\] and\[{{C}_{3}}\]) are identical, therefore\[\Delta =0\].
