A glass prism causes dispersion while a glass plate does not. Why?

    Answer:

When white light passes through a prism, it splits up into its constituent colours because refractive index of glass is different for different colours. Angular dispersion \[=({{\mu }_{V}}-{{\mu }_{B}})A\] and    angular deviation \[=(\mu -1)A\] In case of a glass plate both faces are parallel, \[A\text{ }=0\], so there will be neither dispersion nor deviation. All the emergent rays will be parallel to the incident ray.
