    Answer:

                    Initially, the fundamental frequency of the sonometer wire is equal to the frequency v of the tuning fork. When the length of the wire is made twice, its fundamental frequency becomes \[v/2\]. But it now produces a first overtone of frequency\[v\], vibrating in two segments. Hence the wire can still vibrate in resonance with the tuning fork.
