  • question_answer
If the angular momentum of an electron is \[\mathbf{\vec{J}},\] then the magnitude of the magnetic moment will be

    A)              \[\frac{eJ}{m}\]

    B)             \[\frac{eJ}{2m}\]

    C)             \[eJ2m\]

    D)             \[\frac{2m}{eJ}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Magnetic moment \[M=nIA\] \[=nI\pi {{r}^{2}}\] Taking \[n=1\] and putting \[I=\frac{q}{t}=\frac{e}{\frac{2\pi r}{v}}=\frac{ev}{2\pi r}\] Then,    \[M=\frac{ev}{2\pi r}.\pi {{r}^{2}}=\frac{evr}{2}\] or            \[M=\frac{e}{2m}mvr=\frac{eJ}{2m}\]
