    Oxygen is transported by

    A)  blood plasma

    B)  leucocytes

    C)  RBC

    D)  thrombocytes

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The Red Blood Corpuscles (RBCs) of blood are specialized to carry oxygen. About 97% of the \[{{O}_{2}}\] transported by blood is actually carried by the haemoglobin of RBCs. The iron of haemoglobin normally remains in reduced state. Pure oxygen does not oxidize the iron of haemoglobin therefore, one molecule of haem react four molecules of \[{{O}_{2}}\]in such away that iron does not lose an electron and ferrous remains same. This is called process of oxygenation and oxygenated haemoglobin is called oxyhaemoglobin. \[H{{b}_{4}}\] (haemoglobin) \[\text{+4}{{\text{0}}_{\text{2}}}\xrightarrow[{}]{{}}\text{Hb}\,{{\text{(}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\text{)}}_{\text{4}}}\](oxyhaemoglobin)
