How do Mendel’s experiments show that traits are inherited independently?

    Answer:

Mendel used a dihybrid cross between pure pea plants to show that traits are inherited independently. He selected pea plants with green round seeds (yyRR) with green wrinkled seeds (YY rr) (All yellow round seeds) hybrid. F1 In F1 generation, four types of gametes are formed (YR, Yr, yR, yr). F2 generation is represented as follows
    Gametes YR Yr yR yr
    YR YYRR YYRr YyRR YyRr
    Yr YYRr YYrr YyRr Yyrr
    yR YyRR YyRr yyRR yyRr
    yr yrRr Yyrr yyRr yyrr
This shows that the two characteristics 'R' and 'y' are not linked to each other so are independently inherited
