How is the small intestine designed to absorb digested food?

    Answer:

The inner wall of the small intestine is modified into tiny finger-like projections called villi, which increase the surface area for the absorption of digested food. These viili are highly vascularised, i.e., richly provided with blood vessels. Villi also contain lactease, which help in absorption of digested fats.
