Name the most crucial enzyme found in root nodules for -fixation? Does it require a special pink coloured pigment for its functioning? Elaborate.

    Answer:

Nitrogenase is the most crucial enzyme found in the root nodules for fixation. It is a Mo- Fe protein that catalyses the conversion of atmospheric nitrogen to ammonia. Pink coloured pigment called leghaemoglobin creates anaerobic conditions for the functioning of nitrogenase enzyme.
