Differentiate between (a) Racemose and cymose inflorescence (b) Fibrous root and adventitious root (c) Apocarpous and syncarpous ovary

    Answer:

    (a) Racemose and cymose inflorescence Racemose inflorescence is indeterminate or indefinite inflorescence in which penduncle can produce indefinite number of flowers due to continued activity of growing point. For example, Raceme, spike, spadix inflorescences, etc. In cymose inflorescence, the growing point of the peduncle 16 used in the formation of a flower. (b) Fibrous root and adventitious root Fibrous roots are underground roots which are thin, branched and thread like. They develop from the base of erect stem, e.g., wheat, barley. The adventitious roots arise from part of the flower other than radicle. Such as in sweet potato, etc. (c) Apocarpous and syncarpous ovary If the carpels are two or more, and are fused. The fused condition of the carpels is known as syncarpous, e.g., pentacarpellary condition in China rose. It there are two or more carpels and they are free, then this condition is called apocarpous, e.g., polycarpellary apocarpous as in Ranunculus.
