At first, the peddler was pleased with the money in his pocket but when he turned into the woods and the path twisted back and forth so strangely that he walked without coming to the end of the wood, he realized that he had been walking around in the same part of the forest. All at once, he recalled his thoughts about the world and the rattrap. He, then, felt that his own turn had come. He had been fooled by a bait of thirty kroner and had been caught.
