8th Class Science Stars and the Solar System

  • question_answer 14)
Why is the distance between stars expressed in light years? What do you understand by the statement that a star is eight light years away from the earth?

    Answer:

Stars are millions of kilometres away from the earth. It is not convenient to express such a large distance in the units of km. So the distance of stars from the earth is expressed in time taken by light to travel in one year. Eight light years means time taken by light to travel in eight years.
