Why do not lichens occur in Delhi whereas they commonly grow in Manali or Darjeeling?

    Answer:

Lichens are bioindicators of air pollution. They are highly sensitive to sulphur dioxide (SO2) pollution in air from automobiles and other factories. Delhi has maximum air pollution due to a large number of vehicles compared to Manali and Darjeeling. Therefore, the growth of lichens does not occur in Delhi or any place, where air pollution is high.
