       (a) Why is plaster of Paris written as ? How is it possible to have half water molecule attached to ?     Answer:

                      (a) Actually, two formula units of  share one molecule of water. So, for the sake of convenience the formula of Plaster of Paris is written as It does not mean that half molecule of water is attached to                                                          (1) (b) In aqueous solution, strong electrolyte like dissociates completely into its ions whereas weak electrolyte such as carbonic acid dissociates into its ions only partially.                                                              (2) (c) When electricity is passed through aqueous solution of NaCI, the three products formed are; sodium hydroxide, chlorine and hydrogen. In the word chlor-alkali, chlor stands for chlorine and alkali stands for sodium hydroxide. So, the process is called chlor-alkali.                                                                  (2)
