When zinc metal is treated with a dilute solution of a strong acid, a gas is evolved, which is utilized in the hydrogenation of oil. Name the gas evolved.  Write the chemical equation of the reaction and also write a test to detect the gas formed. [NCERT Exemplar]

    Answer:

Distilled water does not conduct electricity because it does not contain any ionic compound like acids, bases or salts, dissolved in it. Rain water, while falling on Earth through the atmosphere, dissolves acidic gases like CO2, SO2, etc., from the air and forms acids like carbonic acid (H2CO3), sulphurous acid (H2SO3), etc. These acids provide hydrogen ions (H+) to rain water. So, due to the presence of these acids, rain water conducts electricity.
