Shamit and Vishesh were doing an experiment to find equivalent resistance of a combination of resistors connected in series. Shamit made the circuit as follows and could not get the correct results. Vishesh made changes in the circuit and now the findings were matching with the expected result.             On the basis of above passage, answer the following questions (a) What changes were made by Vishesh? (b) What would be the findings in the first circuit made by Shamit indicate? (c) What qualities of Vishesh are reflected from this?

    Answer:

                      (a) To find the equivalent resistance of the circuit, we require the value of total potential difference applied across the circuit and total current flowing through the circuit. Shamit made a mistake by connecting the voltmeter across resistance  because in this case voltmeter will read only the potential across not the total potential. That is the reason, why Shamit could not get the convert result. To get the exact value, Vishesh connected the voltmeter across AC. Now voltmeter will read the total potential applied across  and  both.                     (1) (b) First circuit made by Shamit will indicate only the value of  because voltmeter will show the value of potential applied across                                                                 (1) (c) Vishesh is helpful, logical, scientific and practical.                                                             (1)
