                      (a) The loss of water in the form of vapour from aerial parts of the plant is known as transpiration.                                                    (1) (b) The loss of water in transpiration creates a suction, which pulls water from the xylem cells of roots. Thus, water reaches to the upper parts of the plant by transpiration pull. Movement of water during transpiration in a tree (c) The functions performed by transpiration in plants are (i) It helps in the absorption and upward movement of water and minerals dissolved in it. (ii) It helps in regulation of the temperature. (iii) It helps in removal of the excess water from plants.                                                      (2)
