                      (a) Nutrition is necessary for (i) the growth of the cells. (ii) growing new cells and repair of older ones. (iii) providing energy for metabolic processes. (3) (b) Green plants are autotrophs and known as 'producers'. In the absence of green plants all herbivores will die due to starvation. Carnivores which depend on herbivores will also die.                                                              (2)
