Sections P to T represent different parts of the alimentary canal.        (a) Identify the parts of the alimentary canal that R and S represent. (b) Explain the graph for protein digestion. (c) Complete digestion occurs at the end of part T. What are the contents of the gut at the end of part T, assuming that absorption does not occur? (d) How will digestion be affected, if the pancreas malfunctions?

    Answer:

                      (a) R = Stomach S = Small intestine. (b) Protein digestion does not starts in buccal cavity. It starts in stomach which contain the digesting enzymes and is completed in small intestine (S-T). (c) Amino acid, fatty acid and glycerol. (d) If the pancreas malfunction, then digestion of starch, fats and proteins will be affected as pancreatic amylase, lipase and trypsinogen will be absent.                                                 (5)
