In what forms are metals found in nature? With the help of examples explain how metals react with oxygen, water and dilute acids. Also write chemical equations for the reactions.

    Answer:

                      (i) Metals are found in the forms of both free and combined states. (ii) Reaction of metal with oxygen All metals combine with oxygen to form metal oxides. For example, when copper is heated in air, it combines with oxygen to form copper oxide. i.e.,                                  (1) Reaction of metals with water Metals like sodium react with cold water, magnesium with hot water and iron with steam. (1) (1) (1) Reaction of metal with acids Metals react with acids to form salt and evolve hydrogen gas. For example, magnesium reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid to form magnesium chloride and evolve .                     (1)
