      An ore on heating in air produces sulphur dioxide. (a) Which process would you suggest for its concentration? (b) Describe briefly any two steps involved in the conversion of this concentrated ore into related metal.

    Answer:

                      (a) As the ore produces gas on heating, it should be a sulphide ore. This ore is concentrated by froth floatation process.                                                              (1) (b) The two steps involved in the conversion of sulphide ore into related metal are (i) The concentrated ore is first converted to its oxide by the process of roasting.        (1) (ii) Then the metal oxide is reduced with the help of a reducing agent like carbon.  (1)
