The
makers of the Indian Constitution, chose the model of a secular state for India

were provided:

Indian State. Unlike the status of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, Islam in Pakistan,
the Indian Constitution does not give any special status to any religion.
(ii) The Constitution provides to all
individuals and communities, freedom to profess, practice and propagate any
religion or not to follow any.
(iii) The Constitution prohibits
discriminations on grounds of religion.
