Compare giving reason why fluorine is stronger oxidizing agent than chlorine?

    Answer:

Oxidising power depends on three factors : (i) Electron gain enthalpy. (ii) Bond dissociation enthalpy (iii) Hydration enthalpy. Electron gain enthalpy of fluorine (-333 kJ/mol) is less negative than chlorine (- 349 k J/mol) but still fluorine is stronger oxidising agent due to low bond dissociation energy (158.8 kJ/mol) and high hydration enthalpy (515 kJ/mol) of flourine than chlorine (242.6 and 381 kJ/mol).
