Present a comparative account of each of the following (i) Proton affinity of  and (ii) Physical state of nitrogen and phosphorus (iii) Shapes of and (iv) Oxidising power of and (v) Bond angles of and (vi) Nitrogen forms larger number of oxides than phosphorus.

    Answer:

      (a) Halogens react with each other to form interhalogen compounds. Interhalogen compounds have lower bond dissociation enthalpy So, they are more reactive than the constituent halogen, e.g. A = larger halogen, X = smaller halogen. (b) (i)  is more acidic than HF because HF has high bond dissociation enthalpy. (ii)  is more basic than g because N has high electron density due to its small size.
