    Answer:

                       One day her granddaughter had gone to attend a marriage and no one was available to read the story to grandmother. She realised that she was illiterate. Had she been literate, she would have read the story on her own. Upset over her inability to read on her own, the grandmother resolved to learn the Kannada alphabet.
