    Write short note on bony fishes (Osteichthyes).

    Answer:

                                        Bony fishes have an endoskeleton of bones. Their body is covered with cycloid,  rhomboid (ganoid) and ctenoid scales. They provide greater flexibility to the body. They possess four pairs of gills. Gills are covered by operculum. An air bladder is present. It helps in maintaining buoyancy. It is symmetrical or homocercal. A separate opening for elimination of faecal matter called anus is present. Labeo rohita (rohu), Catia catia (catia), Gambusia (mosquito fish), Exocoetus (flying fish). Hippocampus.
