What is momentum? Write its SI unit. Interpret force in terms of momentum. Represent the following graphically momentum versus velocity when mass is fixed. (ii) momentum versus mass when velocity is constant.

    Answer:

Momentum The quantity of motion possessed by a moving body is known as momentum of the body.                                                                 (1) Momentum of an object of mass m moving with a velocity v. Momentum, p = mv Its SI unit is                                      (1) Force applied on an object of mass m moving with acceleration a.  ( Acceleration = Rate of change of velocity )                                                                     (1) Force applied on an object is equal to the rate of change of momentum of the object. (i) Momentum versus velocity graph when mass is fixed. Momentum versus velocity graph will be a straight line passing through the origin (If y = 0, then p = 0).                                                              (1) (ii) Momentum versus mass graph when velocity is constant. p = mv If velocity is constant, then So, the momentum versus mass graph will be a straight line passing through the origin (if m = 0. Then p = 0).                                                   (1)
