       (i) Will a sheet of paper fall slower than one that is crumpled into a ball in vacuum? Why? (ii) Show mathematically that acceleration experienced by an object is independent of its mass. (iii) Show that value of Given,

    Answer:

                      (i) Both of them will fall at the same speed, because acceleration produced in freely falling bodies is the same for all bodies, irrespective of their shapes or masses.      (1)                  (ii) Consider a body of mass m on the surface of the earth, M be mass of the earth. R be the distance between the body and center of the earth (radius of the earth) and g is the acceleration due to the earth. Let F be the force acting on the body. According to Newton's second law of motion, F = mg                                                   ...(i) (1/2) According to Newton's law of gravitation,                                     ?(ii) (1/2) From Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get  thus, g is independent of the mass of the body.                                       (1) (iii) (1) Thus, g= 9.8 m/s2                                             (i)
